Music

My name is Leanne Pletersky and I am a seventeen-year-old student currently studying my a-level exams at Beaumont School and Sandringham School. I was born and raised in St.Albans, Hertfordshire, which is in the South East of England.

I listen to a wide variety of music that ranges from rock music to pop music and what is popular in England. For example, my favourite rock song is ‘No brains’ by the band ‘Sum 41,’ whilst my favourite pop song is ‘Bad Romance’ by Lady Gaga who is currently a popular singer among teenagers in Hertfordshire.

I like to listen to bands like Linkin Park and Metallica and last year I went to a rock music festival called ‘Sonisphere,’ which was held in Stevenage and about a 40 minute drive from my house. For £70 a day I saw Linkin park and Metallica live, over the course of the  weekend.I also like older music from the 1980s such as a band called the Cranberries. My favourite song by them is called ‘Zombie’ which was released in 1994.
St Albans offers lots of music in places such as ‘The Horn’, which is a pub where small bands or groups can play live music every now and again. The Pioneer youth club is also popular among people my age in St.Albans, as it plays the music of small  or bigger bands at a price. Going to these pub or music events allows people to socialise with types of people who share the same interests and get to know more people from their own area.

Another music event that takes part in Hertfordshire, is the ‘Hertford Music Festival’, which is an annual event that takes place from Tuesday 27th  April until Saturday 29th  May and has been held  for sixteen years. It is an event for young people aged eleven to eighteen, where they can display their musical talents to win cash prizes.
Music is popular among people in Hertfordshire with young people starting bands and playing at ‘The Horn’ and ‘Pioneer’ before auditioning to move onto bigger things. Bands such as ‘Enter Shikari’ were born and raised in St Albans before becoming a big and popular band in England, with many people hoping to follow their example.

Bands that aren’t as big as ‘Enter shikari’ are bands like ‘MiceWithGlasses’ who play at pub nights, weddings and parties. In addition to just listening to music, Hertfordshire offers a wide varity of music groups, which are located all over the area meaning that most people will find a music group close to them. These groups include the ‘County youth Orchestra’ and the ‘County Youth Choir’ as well as instrumental groups for instruments such as flutes and guitars.
Hertfordshire University, which is located in St.Albans, where they teach many music courses such as Music Technology and Music and Entertainment Industry Management.

Hello

Interviewer
What do you do in Hertfordshire for music entertainment?

Hertfordshire Teenager
Quite often I go to the Pioneer to listen to live music with my friends on Friday or Saturday nights but sometimes I go to the Horn pub with my family.

Interviewer
What is your favourite type of music and why?

Hertfordshire Teenager
My favourite type of music is Indie because I think its upbeat and calming at the same time. It is also quite popular among my peers. My favourite band is Oasis even though they recently split up.

Interviewer
Have you been to any big concerts or festivals recently?

Hertfordshire Teenager
I was interested in going to Sonisphere last year but because of the money I couldn’t afford to go so instead I saved up my money and went to the Reading Festival.

Interviewer
Have you ever taken part in any musical activities?

Hertfordshire Teenager
When I was in primary school I took part in the school choir which was every Wednesday lunchtime, where we practised to perform in the Alban arena in St.albans for 3 nights as part of a choir show with other schools.

Interviewer
Did you ever learn an instrument?

Hertfordshire Teenager
I learnt the recorder as a child in primary school, although I didn’t do it for long. Then I took up guitar in secondary school and did that for 3 years.
